IT’S NOT JUST A MOVIE...IT’S A MOVEMENT
Mark your calendars for a special preview of the documentary "Opening Our Eyes" which will take place at Zion Lutheran Church tonight at 5PM. The yet-to-be released movie will be shown, along with the unique opportunity of meeting and speaking with the director, Gail Mooney of Mendham.

This movie shows ordinary people doing extraordinary things. They are making a difference in the lives of others and themselves.
Mother/daughter filmmakers, circle the globe on a 99-day journey, seeking people who are making a positive difference in the world. They find remarkable people, including Maggie Doyne of Mendham who opened an orphanage and school in Nepal starting with just her babysitting money. The filmmakers goal is to create awareness and inspire others to create positive change - through the power of ONE.
This film tells the stories of eleven change makers on six continents who are making our world a better place.
This event is open to the community.  There is a suggested donation of $10/ ticket.

Souper Bowl 2012 Is Coming Up
The Souper Bowl of Caring is youth across the nation working to fight hunger and poverty.  In 2011 over 17,000 churches and other groups generated almost $9.6 million in donations and food items for local charities.  Our annual collection for the "Souper Bowl" will happen on February 5th - the day of the Super Bowl! Our Youth will be collecting funds and food items in large soup kettles after each worship service on that day. Donations will go towards Faith Kitchen at Trinity Lutheran in Dover, which in 2011 served 30,996 meals to the needy and homeless.  We hope to reach $600 in donations and Thrivent Financial of Morris County will add an additional $200. The collected food items will go to the Food Pantry at Trinity Lutheran. Gifts to this cause can be made prior to and after Super Bowl Sunday by using a pew envelope and indicating Souper Bowl. The Youth of Zion thank you for your support of this important outreach effort.

COLLEGE CONNECTION 2012
In order to maintain Zion Lutheran Church's connection with our far-flung college students, every February Zion sends them a box filled with goodies.  We ask for your help in filling this year's boxes.  This year the boxes will be packed on Sunday, February 5th.  We ask for your help in three areas:
1) If you have a daughter or son in college or graduate school, please forward the Church Secretary, Nancy Ayotte, their college address (Tel 908-876-3547 or e-mail zionlongvalley@comcast.net).  Even if their address is unchanged from last year, please confirm the address with Nancy.
2) Contributions of goodies from you will be appreciated.  The contributions may include: microwave popcorn, small packages of crackers & cookies, Cup O' Soup & hot chocolate envelopes, small boxes/pouches of raisins & other dried fruits, granola & power bars, boxes/packages of candy, mints & gum, etc., etc.  Home baked cookies will also be accepted on Sunday, Feb 5th.  Contributions may be dropped off in boxes located in the Fields Hall Kitchen and in the Narthex.
3) A few volunteers will be appreciated during the 10:30 AM service on Sunday, February 5th to help pack the boxes going to the students.
If you have any questions, please contact Becky Keane 908-813-2795. Thank you for your help!!!
