BUILDING PERMIT ISSUED AND CONSTRUCTION BEGINS!!!
The Zion Lutheran Building Committee is very pleased to announce that the Building Permit for the New Building Program was issued on Monday. This is a major milestone in the project, as it allows construction to begin. Site preparation, the first step in the construction process, started on Wednesday. A pre-construction meeting was held on Monday with the contractor, subcontractors, architect and various people from the church. The meeting went well and Twining Construction will soon be issuing a construction schedule. Charlie Davidson has kindly agreed to be the Church's liaison with the contractor.
We will be working closely with the contractor to minimize the impact of the project on the Congregation and the Long Valley Christian Nursery School. However, a project of this size and scope will cause some inconvenience. For example, the first row of parking places closest to the Parish Center will be used for contractor parking and a laydown area for building supplies. We thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation as we go through construction. We will keep you informed as construction progresses.
The closing on the construction loan and mortgage from First Hope Bank was held on June 30, 2010. We thank you for your past and future donations to the “Passing on the Faith for the Next 250 Years” Building Fund. Without your ongoing financial support, this project would not be possible.
It has been a long and often arduous journey to get to the issuance of the building permit and the start of construction. Barb Schulz deserves tremendous credit for all her work with the professionals and governmental officials in getting to this very significant milestone. Thank you, Barb. Thanks also to Pat Refsdal for her work with the Washington Township MUA, which was the last and most challenging hurdle in the permitting process. Finally, thanks to Bill Keane for securing the mortgage financing and for keeping track of Building Fund donations and disbursements.
PARISH OFFICES HAVE MOVED
With the start of construction, the Parish Offices have temporarily moved from the Parish Center to the Griffith House next door at 13 Schooley’s Mountain Rd. While we know it is not the most convenient way to get there, we would ask that you go in the front door of the Griffith House and not walk through the construction site. The Church address and phone number remain unchanged. The Secretary’s office will be on the first floor, Pastor’s office will be on the second floor.
Thank you to all who assisted this past week with the move of the Parish Offices. Special thanks to David Bowles and Ray Walborn, who prepared the Griffith House for the move, and to Pastor Froehlke and Nancy Ayotte, who had to pack-up and unpack their offices!!
JUNE FOOD DRIVE THANK YOU!
Thank you to all who contributed to our June Food Drive! We were able to deliver groceries to ICOWTA in order to help keep their shelves stocked this summer. There is still a great need during the summer months, when most of us aren't thinking about the food pantry. If you are able to remember the food pantry during your weekly shopping trips, all contributions of non-perishables foods are greatly appreciated. Some of the most needed items include juice, canned fruit, healthy snacks, Parmalat Milk, cooking oil, bread crumbs, sugar, salt/pepper and cleaning products. All contributions can be dropped in the Food Pantry in Fields Hall, and please remember to save your receipts and put them in the envelope on the bulletin board, as Thrivent provides matching funds! If you have any questions, please contact Candice Snyder.
APPEAL FOR SENIOR YOUTH TO CONTRIBUTE TO HABITAT FOR HUMANITY WORKDAYS AUGUST 2-3
This is an appeal to the Senior Youth of Zion to contribute to the next scheduled workdays. The senior youth of Zion have traditionally contributed to helping a family move closer to owning a home. The next workdays are August 2-3rd from 8:30 until 4PM, at the same site in Dover. Youth less than 18 years need the presence of an adult; we will be flexible about arranging adult Monitors for the youth group. Lunch will be provided on site. Sign up in Fields Hall or contact Candice Snyder (thesnyds@embarqmail.com) with any questions.
